I have been trying to spawn a large Ki Utsuri at one of my clients but after three attempts stil not. Whilst at my own setup I managed to spawn a very nice 80cm Sanky paired with a showa and a chagoi and also a bit of a mix, Ochiba, Gin sorragoi, and a gin chagoi.

Today we started seeing some fry coming up to the surface and must say they look good. Must say this year I have billions of Daphnea. (maybe there is a million and I can sell them for R1.00 each in a week or two).

Well my fry is getting on well. I have much more daphnea in the pond than Koi. Millions of them and my breeding pond is also full.

Now starts the difficulty, keeping the water quality good without loosing your fish.

I will post a photo of my plan here tomorrow. (hint) I am in the drum filter business.

My fry certainly has enough live food at this stage.

At this stage it seems as though the fry is doing very very well. Fist cull will have to be quite soon

The water was a bit murky so they were not very visible but today I could see them quite well and I was pleasantly surprised.

Update, My fry is doing exceptionally well. It seems as my spawning percentage was guite good as there is plenty.

The majority is now about 20mm, yes I am very surprised but then I stil have millions of Daphnea in there so they have a lot of food, plus I do feed 3 times a day. The color patterns are starting to show and I can already see some show winners.

Culling will be in about two weeks time

Well today is week nr.4. My fry is now getting to the 30mm mark and they are also starting to nibble on the 2mm pelets. Not too far behind the Japs, so i am quite chuffed.

So far I have been able to keep the daphnea levels quite high as well.

Yes I do see quite a few show winners there.

Quick update,

The fry is doing very well still. Unfortunately I have run out of daphnea, but fortunately they are taking 2mm peletts now and are eating well.

I have created a large sieve filter box with 1mm openings and have started up the filtration system. Should be able to see them nicely within a few days. Doing like a 5% water change every second day.

Culling is getting overdue now. Time, time.

Ok so this week 12 if I m correct.

Ovcer the last few weeks I have been very busy on other things ao the fry was neglected a bit. I lost a few, about a dozen, then I dosed the pond wit a bit of salt and ll is well now. Except I am having quite a nitrite issue and am doing daily 30% water changes.

Having quite a issue with dirt on the floor.

Breeding koi you need the correct setup and lots of ponds to move them around.

Anyway I see some stunning sorragoi now and the Ochiba is starting to show nice patterns. Some good chagoi as well. As for the others, well we shall see.

The fry is still doing great and yes the kohaku and sanke colours are starting to show nicely.

I never had time to do culling but a Amphibious culling machine culled them very well till I got him and strangled it.
