One of the most common parasites in koi ponds today.

There is mainly two types of flukes commonly known to attack our koi, IE: Gill Flukes and Skin Flukes. Symptoms are varied but gulping at the surface and flashing, plus a few others are common. Lying on the floor with clamped fins and redness at the bottom of the fish are sure signs of fluke infestation.

It is a common thought that parasites need a host to survive. Not true in the case of flukes.

I have often found flukes to exist in the pond sludge, on plant roots and lately have found an abundance of flukes on the inside panels of a drum filter, very alive and well.

There are quite a few good medications for flukes on the market today.

I have found Praziquantel to be a excellent choice.

Also pro dose blue does work well.

One problem I have found with fluke treatments is that they easily build up resistance to the treatments used and one reaches the maximum dosage level that is safe for the fish and they still survive.

This to me is where Praziquantel comes in very well. You can double dose without a problem, as it has been tested to 100 grams per 1000 litres without issue to all fish species.
