I have never yet seen a fish as heavily laden as this poor koi. I tried my best, increased the males to three, injected hormones. The climate was good but sadly lost it.
Egg compaction is one of the biggest killers of stunning large koi.
How do we avoid it,
Some may disagree, do not feed during winter, not even the so called winter foods, Like the wheat germs etc, your fish dont need that. Feed nothing for two months during the cold months, normally May, June and July here in SA.
Set up spawning vats early in the season, around August, September. Get rid of those eggs and save your fish, you are not a breeder and wont easily be able to raise those fry, it is a mammoth task, and you need great skills and lots of good water.
Best of luck
Just a add on, this fish had 1,4 Kg of eggs, that is around 1,500,000 fry if you have a 100% fertilization rate,
